Objectives[edit | edit source]

  • Share a methodological approach for demand-driven R4D within the context of the AfricaRISING.
  • Identify and discuss major issues of the approach with a larger R&D community.
  • Find ways forward to tackle these issues based on the knowledge and experiences of this larger community.

  • (25 min) [Ewen] introduction of the agenda and participants (<range type="comment" id="842752">speed dating</range id="842752"> in circles), ground rules;
  • (20 min) Presentation [Jerry] about the Africa RISING workshop + buzzing with 2-3 people to come up with questions;
  • (20 min) Presentation [Ken] on systems approaches + buzzing to come up with questions;
  • (20 min) Presentation [Ann] on R4D + buzzing to come up with questions
  • (15 min) Key questions for clarification (and challenges of operationalization?) - only 1 per buzz group

AM1.2

  • (20 min) Presentation [Jens] on conceptual approach - 15 min pres + 5 min (2 or 3) burning questions
  • (20 min) Presentation [Diego] about implementation & recommendations - 15 min + 5 min Q&A
  • (50 min) Group work: Short fishbowl battle on pros and cons of the approach + (optional plenary reflection on insights) fish bowl for consolidation of insights and emerging issues...

  • (60 min) World cafe on the existing issues around the question: issues, strategies, examples of (key issue) for R4D: What should and can we do about this?

  • (30 min) Short peer review with one person going around to visit each other's ideas.
  • (15 min) Consolidation in dedicated groups to develop a more comprehensive overview

AM2.1

  • (5 min) Brief recap day 1 [Laurens] and introduction day 2 [Ewen]
  • (25 min) Green and red cards (in buzz groups) to flag interesting insights and ideas and challenges of questions for Africa RISING.
  • (25 min) Have groups champion some topics and come up with a refined plan for each of these topics + roaming group to ensure cross-pollination.
  • (35 min) Presentation of plans.

AM2.2

  • (120 min) Writeshop - to be fleshed out by Diego. Could be: Take the ideas from day 1 and work further on them in groups, with roaming AfricaRISING group to answer questions and help shape up reflections in a pragmatic way for the program - Develop template.

PM2.1

  • (60 min) Presenting Writeshop ideas + clarification questions + feedback Diego / Ann for each - in plenary.

PM2.2

  • (15 min) Reflections by Diego and Ann about feedback given and implications + next steps [Diego].
  • (15 min) Short spectrogram evaluation of participants about liking the workshop and about believing in applicability.
