  • What is the key opportunity or enhancement that the project could support?
  • Who, from this project, could be involved in such an activity?

Koutiala sites :

  • Sorghum variety trials
  • Sorghum crop management
  • Farmer Field Schools on ISSFM
  • IFAD – ICRAF
  • AVRDC new project starting : vegetable
  • Bio-Carbon project (Finland) ICRAF
  • IICEM ( ?)
  • INTSORMIL : marketing
  • SANREM : NRM – Soil and Water Conservation
  • Jecam: monitoring land use, remote sensing
  • CORAF: Crop livestock integration – ecological, intensification (INERA coordinators)
  • Natural Regeneration – social economic study

Bougouni :

  • ILRI PROGEBE, Land use
  • MoBiom, IER, - Agroforestry
  • AVRDC new project starting: vegetable
  • Hope
  • DONATA: programme maize system

Both:

Activities for 2012

  1. Initiate Multi-Stakeholder meetings separately at each circle with key actors from each of the projects active in each site (circle) second half of Feb 2012. Develop communication and partnerships for the future.
  2. Identify priority activities at partners’ request based on Feb 2012 consultation.
  3. Plan for total biomass assessments in the on-going trials, including trees
  4. Assessments of livestock management issues in the Koutiala area (management practices)
  5. Replicating the characterization using high resolution imagery for the Bougouni sites
  6. Survey on (vegetable) production system issues (extent of mixed cropping relay cropping with assessment), in collaboration with IFPRI survey
  7. Gather nutrition data/planning from USAID and coordinate food consumption study
  8. Pesticide residue issues explored/defined in the target sites
  9. Add trials on groundnut varieties
  10. Documentation on local conventions on landuse (Antoine and Augustine),
  11. Collection of local diversity of vegetable crops, and possibly inventory of crop varieties used
  12. Test broad adaptation of vegetable varieties
  13. Comprehensive review of opportunities and constraints for sustainable intensification in the target areas.
  14. Develop inventory on proven technologies for the target areas for sustainable intensification and develop plan for their dissemination
  15. Identify other research actors: Universities

Development actors active in the target zones will be identified by Bougouna Sogoba and Abdoulaye Diakite
