- Good morning everyone. Welcome to this meeting. It’s exciting to see a lot of faces here.
- This initiative started a long time ago, maybe 8 years back. Can I see all of us who were here when we started 8 years ago? Great to see most of you are still here with us!
- First of all, thank you all for your resilience and more importantly, thank you to the new comers too! We have to keep on working hard to ensure farmers (the ultimate beneficiaries of our activities) are no longer faced by some of the challenges they have today with agriculture.
- It is impressive that over the past several years, through this project we have made significant achievements. Most of these have always been reported to the donor every year and also during the annual review and planning meetings. There are reports on the good agronomic practices we have developed. There are reports on the numbers of farmers we have reached etc.
- To me these reports and numbers are important because they showcase what we have achieved.
- Let me digress a little to announce to all here that 3 weeks ago IITA received the Africa Food Prize Award from the Green Alliance. This prize is not only for IITA, it is for all of us who are here. IITA relies dearly on the support of its partners.
- I would also like to very much appreciate the United States Government (specifically the USAID Zambia County for supporting the project over the years. Your investments have for sure resulted into great outputs for farmers and even if this project is coming to an end we will reach out to partners and try to scale these out.
